Frequently Asked Questions
What do the Witango version numbers mean? |
|
Witango version numbering, starting with version 6, is as follows. Using the version number 6.1.3 as an example: 6 - This is the major version number. Each license which is purchased for Witango applies to one major version. Each major version provides significant updates to the product and may make major changes to its functionality. File formats between major versions are not necessarily compatible. Licensing structures, pricing, etc. can change between major versions. 1 - This is the minor version number. Each minor version is free to all users who have a valid license for the major version. Minor versions are typically corrective and additive updates, attempting to make the software run better without making large changes to its operation. All file formats of a major version are compatible amoung its minor versions. In most cases backwards compatibility is maintained among minor versions, however, features are sometimes added to minor versions, and once used in your application may have unintended and unpredictable results is used on an older version. 3 - This is the revision number. A revision is strictly a corrective update to a minor version and will not make changes to the functionality other than to fix incorrect behavior. Odd number revisions are meant for release, while even number revisions are pre-release builds. Therefore version 6.1.2 would be a pre-release version meant for testing, while 6.1.3 would be that same version released for production once testing is complete. The initial production release of any version of the product will always be x.x.1 |
